Import Additional IA Columns

Copy selected stimulus covariates from the IA file into matching EEG events.

Last updated: 2026-10-07

When to use Step 3

Choose EyeSort → 3. Import IA Columns to Events after Step 2 when downstream models need variables such as lexical frequency, predictability, constraint, item set, or stimulus length.

Step 3 reads the latest Step 2 configuration, excludes condition, item, and region columns from the selectable list, and matches IA rows to events by condition_number plus item_number.

Import

Confirm the IA file, select one or more additional columns, and click Confirm. In batch mode, EyeSort modifies each Step 2 temporary dataset one at a time. Imported headers are converted with matlab.lang.makeValidName, so punctuation or leading digits may change the resulting field name.

Expected result and verification

EEG.eyesort_imported_columns
EEG.eyesort_import_diagnostics
fieldnames(EEG.event)

eyesort_import_diagnostics reports valid and invalid text rows, valid/invalid event keys, assigned events, matched keys, missing keys, and unused text keys.

Empty imported values usually indicate a condition–item mismatch, not a derivation failure. EyeSort transfers source values unchanged; it does not calculate them.

For scripted use:

EEG = import_ia_columns(EEG, iaFile, 'trigcondition', ...
    'trigitem', {'frequency','predictability'}, 'command');

Next: build and apply a label queue.
