Choose or Convert Event-Marker Formats

Control EEG.event.type while preserving EyeSort’s canonical code and original marker.

Last updated: 2026-10-07

Supported formats

Step 4 and EyeSort → Modify Event Code Format support:

  • Numeric: CCRRLL, appropriate for ERPLAB/BINLISTER.
  • Condition and label description: bdf_full_description.
  • Description plus fixated word: appends current_word_text.
  • Description plus word identifier: appends the raw current_word boundary key, typically a MATLAB-safe value such as x4_2.
  • Region text content: displays the full current-region text.
  • Original: restores original_type when available.

Fallbacks use the canonical numeric code when readable metadata is unavailable.

Canonical identity is preserved

Conversion rewrites only EEG.event.type on labeled events. It never changes eyesort_full_code. The first pre-EyeSort type is retained in original_type, making the display conversion reversible when that field exists.

EEG = convert_event_codes(EEG, 'description_word');
EEG = convert_event_codes(EEG, 'numeric');

Valid API values are numeric, description, description_word, description_index, region_content, and original.

Downstream choice

Use readable types for inspection or models that accept strings. Before BINLISTER, convert to numeric even though BDF generation itself reads eyesort_full_code.

In GUI batch mode, conversion finds *_processed.set files in the remembered output directory and saves each converted dataset in place. Retain a reproducible record of the selected format.
