Custom EYE-EEG Field Names

Map local fixation and saccade event conventions to EyeSort’s configurable inputs.

Last updated: 2026-10-07

Inspect local conventions

EyeSort defaults to R_fixation, fix_avgpos_x, R_saccade, sac_startpos_x, and sac_endpos_x. To identify alternatives:

fieldnames(EEG.event)
types = string({EEG.event.type});
EEG.event(find(types == "YOUR_FIXATION", 1))
EEG.event(find(types == "YOUR_SACCADE", 1))

Configure Step 2

Check Change default event field names and enter all five names exactly. The fixation and saccade type tests use the configured type as a prefix in core mapping; choose a value that identifies the intended events without catching unrelated markers.

X positions must be numeric or text that MATLAB can convert. Saccade direction requires both start and end X fields. EyeSort ignores Y coordinates.

Verify persistence

After Step 2:

EEG.eyesort_field_names
EEG.eyesort_step2_diagnostics.fixation_events_seen
EEG.eyesort_step2_diagnostics.saccade_events_seen
EEG.eyesort_step2_diagnostics.missing_x_field_events

Save the text-IA configuration so every participant and collaborator uses the same mapping. If fields differ between participants, normalize upstream or process homogeneous subsets separately.
